Live Events Director, Producer & Composer

CREATING INNOVATIVE WORK FOR THE STAGE

Building live events across theatre, music, and immersive formats.

ABOUT ME

STAGE DIRECTOR & CREATIVE PRODUCER

Chris Mackin is a Brooklyn-based director, producer, guitarist, and composer whose work blurs the boundaries between theatre, live music, and immersive performance. He is the founder of Loop Troupe, a Brooklyn production company that has produced hundreds of live shows in NYC and beyond. Chris also serves as Executive Producer for Popular Shows LLC, led by New York Times bestselling author Michael Levin.

Chris recently directed the Off-Broadway musical Sober Songs at Theatre Row, a darkly comedic rock musical about recovery and self-discovery. Other directing credits include Jenny Loves Me (The Huntington Theatre), Wisenheimer’s Master Plan (Medicine Show Theatre / Franklin Stage Company), The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs (Adirondack Theatre Festival), and Taking It Too Far (Vineyard Theatre), an ever-evolving musical comedy show with over ten hours of original material, performed at venues across New York City and beyond.

He developed and directed Electric Wonderland, a psychedelic theatrical concert reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, composed and performed by his band Boojum. The show ran for a two-month residency at Brooklyn Art Haus and returned for special performances at Brooklyn Bowl (2025) and The Sultan Room (2024–2025), featuring dancers, projections, and an evolving live score. Other theatrical concert productions developed and directed by Chris include Guardian of the Groove Grail (ShapeShifter Lab), Mr. Malfunktion Steals the Groove (ShapeShifter Lab), Freak Party Halloween (Brooklyn Made), and Summer Solstice (Littlefield).

As a producer, Chris has worked across both commercial theatre and large scale music venues, from Broadway development to original immersive concerts. From 2016-2020, he served as the Associate Producer at Alexis Productions under Tony Award-winner Anita Waxman, contributing to Broadway and pre-Broadway shows such as Escape to Margaritaville and Little Dancer. Chris also created and runs Bushwick’s Dead, a collective of New York jam musicians with a long-running residency at the 850-capacity Brooklyn Bowl, reimagining the music of the Grateful Dead and beyond, and drawing hundreds of fans each month as a cornerstone of the city’s live music scene.

As a guitarist and composer, Chris performs regularly across New York City and beyond in multiple projects, including Boojum, Walrus, and Bushwick’s Dead. His original works combine psychedelic rock, improvisation, and theatrical storytelling, most notably in his upcoming sci-fi rock opera Prince of the Eclipse, inspired by Calderón’s Life Is a Dream.

At the center of Chris’s creative vision is a commitment to reimagining live performance — merging theatre’s emotional immediacy with the collective energy of music to create something truly electric.
